Environment Protection
GIANT2023-01-27T15:12:40+00:00Since Uganda is heavily dependent on rain-fed agriculture, we believe that climate change is one of the threats to Uganda’s sustainable development and efforts to end poverty. Therefore, we encourage and engage communities, local and opinion leaders to prevent climate change through; Encourage and engage communities in Tree Planting, Community Awareness and Mind-set Change.
OUR APPROACH
- Partnering-up with local, Religious and opinion leaders in the community.
- Mobilizing and sensitizing communities on the benefits of caring for the environment through their local, Religious and opinion leaders.
- Encouraging communities on planting the right trees in the right places.
- Introducing ‘adopt-a-tree’ program to encourage citizen’s care for public trees.
- Introducing neighbourhood tree planting groups / friends-of-trees groups.
- Engaging the youth and women in planting trees.
Tree Planting
Uganda has a rapidly growing population, which is putting a great deal of stress on the country’s forests by increasing demand for firewood, pushing agricultural expansion, and expanding land settlement. In most parts of Uganda, much of the forest has been cleared for charcoal production, degrading wildlife habitat and presenting a hardship for local farmers
Benefits Of Tree Planting.
As trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees provide many benefits to us, every day. Tree-planting has become a cornerstone of many environmental campaigns in recent years. The call to plant trees is everywhere, seen as a simple and effective way to help reduce the impact of carbon emissions and restore natural ecosystems
Community Awareness
Many people are ignorantly involved in activities that degrade the environment, threatens Uganda’s sustainable development and efforts to prevent climate change. Therefore, we engage and sensitize communities, local and opinion leaders to actively participate in actions against poverty and climate change.
Mind-Set Change / Empowerment
Research shows that mind-sets play a significant role in determining life’s outcomes. Therefore, by understanding and shifting one’s mind-set, our communities can improve on the environment, health, reduce stress and become more resilient to life’s challenges.
