For; Timely God Led club Feed the Hungry Project
Alleviating feeding barriers faced by people living with special needs in the District of Mukono and surrounding communities of Uganda by 2025
Activity background
Under the project, one of the key areas of interventions is provision and promotion of sustainable community Feeding Programme after realization that lack of food is one of the major contributing factors to poor or stunted growth and malnutrition among children and adults living with special disabilities in Ugandan, particularly in Mukono District (Baseline findings).
Lack of food is one of the biggest factors leading to malnutrition and death with the most affected being those deep in the communities. Parents, guardians and care givers driven by many factors, have failed to provide meals for these people, and this culminates into many people with special disabilities, going or living on empty stomachs, implying that there is less or no concentration of food into the body for growth and brain development. while others would want to do casual work, to raise money for food, people do not trust their perfection. Worse still, their own families call them a curse and a taboo in the family. it’s still a common belief among the community members that it’s the government’s sole responsibility to provide and care for people living with special disabilities but services do not reach people deep in communities.
Under this project, Timely God Led Club (TGLC) planned to give out food, and also support the establishment of Community Food committees (CFCs) in all the 30 project beneficiary communities. At the same time, TGLC looks forward to strengthening the advocacy and social mobilization systems at community level as well as support parents, guardian and care givers put in place a sustainable feeding programme within their context e.g. they grow food in the gardens or practice urban farming to feed them
Purpose of the activities
To provide food and promote sustainable feeding programme to enable people living with special disabilities have meals/lunch in order to promote good health and growth in the 30 communities that will eventually culminate into better and good health for all people living with special needs
